InHome Physical Therapy & Massage was founded in 2005 by Erik Parkin as a mobile service provider for the city of Edmonton, Alberta and surrounding areas.
Prior to 2005 there were a series of events and experiences which led to the launch of the first successful business location. Nearing the end of completing a Kinesiology degree at the University of Alberta, Erik volunteered at a local facility assisting the physically disabled with their mobility programs. During this experience Erik was concerned with the lack of resources available to meet the needs of individuals with mobility barriers. Driven by the passion to provide accessible healthcare, Erik began working on a business model that would offer patients the ability to receive a therapist treatment within their own living environment. The goal was to remove any mobility barriers that a patient would have.
Once Erik completed his degree he began working within a private physical therapy & massage clinic as a Kinesiologist. During this time Erik’s passion for offering a service accessible to those with mobility barriers had continued to grow. After 18 months of private employment he took the leap into the entrepreneurial world. Originally naming the company Home Care Rehabilitation (HCR) Solutions, this model was refined as the business grew throughout the Province of Alberta including operations in Calgary. In the earliest days the services included physical therapy and exercise therapy. Later, adding the services of massage therapy, athletic therapy and personal fitness programs and rebranding the company name to become InHome Physical Therapy & Massage. The growth was steady and strong as business practices were shaped to provide efficient service and expand the base of patients.
Seeing the results and impact it had made in the lives of those with mobility barriers, Erik knew he needed to expand this model outside of his provincial market and to the larger country. At this point Erik made a decision to offer this business as a franchise.
Erik partnered with his long-time friend Chad Okrainetz to take this company to the next level of business growth. Chad has a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur in sales and real estate, as well brings over 13 years of experience in healthcare, specifically human resources and community services. Most recently Chad has held the position of Vice Present of Human Resources and Community Services for a non-profit healthcare organization.
With the perfect pairing in place, together Erik and Chad have successfully launched the InHome franchise across Canada and continue to seek opportunities for growth in new markets. Both are equally passionate about providing a flexible service which truly meets the need of patients and responds to trends within the healthcare system.
