Important: See a Doctor First

If you suspect a concussion, it is strongly recommended that you seek medical evaluation from a physician or emergency care provider before beginning physiotherapy treatments. Some symptoms—while potentially related to concussion—could also signal a more serious brain injury that requires immediate medical attention.

Common concerning symptoms may include:

● Neck pain with restricted movement
● Worsening or severe headache
● Episodes of confusion or unusual behavior
● Loss of consciousness, even briefly
● Seizures or convulsions
● Nausea accompanied by vomiting
● Difficulty speaking or swallowing
● Numbness or tingling around the mouth or nose
● Double or blurred vision
● Sudden episodes of leg weakness or collapse

Please note: This is not a complete list. Other symptoms may also occur, and the presence or absence of any specific sign does not rule out a serious issue.

Disclaimer: The information provided here is for general awareness only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. If you are experiencing any symptoms after a head injury, consult a qualified healthcare provider promptly.

What is a Concussion?

A concussion is a type of brain injury that occurs when a sudden force causes the brain to move rapidly back and forth within the skull. This doesn’t always require a direct blow to the head—impacts to the body, face, or neck can also transmit enough force to the brain to cause a concussion. Such injuries often happen during sports, falls, or motor vehicle accidents.

Unlike other injuries, concussions typically do not appear on standard imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs. Diagnosis relies on recognizing symptoms and conducting a thorough clinical evaluation.

Early recognition and appropriate care are crucial. With timely intervention and a personalized management plan, individuals can safely return to work, school, and sports—helping to prevent prolonged symptoms and reduce the risk of additional injury.

Symptoms of a Concussion

Some symptoms, while possibly related to a concussion, may also indicate a more serious brain injury. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed below, we strongly recommend seeking medical evaluation from your family physician or the nearest emergency department before scheduling your assessment.

Sidney has been working with my 95 year old bed bound Dad for over a year now.She continues to challenge him, yet she still mindful of his limitations.Sidney is very flexible and responsive to new concerns. For example, Dad has recently reported lack of hand mobility due to extra stiffness and numbness in his hand and fingers.Sidney assessed this issue at the next visit and promptly provided some stretches and strengthening for him and sent printable pictures/ videos as required demonstrating the proper technique.Sidney always remains positive and encouraging and my Dad always looks forward to her visits !Dad has three daughters and one of us likes to attend each session with my Dad when Sidney comes so we know how to practice the exercises properly with him in between appointments.Sidney is a joy to work with and we really appreciate her expertise and insight regarding the most appropriate exercises to incorporate for Dad’s specific needs.
