Why are Falls an issue?

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults in Canada, and their impact can be life-changing. According to a 2010 report by the Public Health Agency of Canada, falls account for 85% of injury-related hospitalizations among seniors. They are also a major reason why some individuals transition from independent living to long-term care.

The risk of falling increases significantly with age—there is a 30% chance of falling at least once a year after the age of 60, and that risk rises to 45% by the age of 75. Common fall-related injuries include hip fractures and head injuries, both of which can severely impact mobility and overall quality of life. Alarmingly, about one in five people who experience a hip fracture face serious health complications within the year.

Addressing fall risk early—through prevention strategies, strengthening exercises, and balance-focused physiotherapy—can make a meaningful difference in helping adults aged 60 and over stay active, independent, and safe at home.

Cindy is simply amazing! She has been working with my 96 y.o. father for close to two years now. Cindy is a travelling physio who visits him in the Cambridge Manor every two weeks.Dedicated, competent, cheerful, encouraging and thoughtful are just a few of the adjectives my father would use to describe her. Believe me but my father, a life long athlete, is a tough customer to please. This recommendation is long overdue but I am delighted to endorse and recommend Cindy to you .
